Absolutely amazing read. It's important we all look after ourselves and make the right decision, which is to go and have our smears. 5 minutes discomfort or embarrassment is nothing compared to the alternative… Months of painful treatment or even an early grave xx

In reply to Susan B.. Hi Susan, thanks for your comment, although I have to challenge you on this one. I had a negative HPV test but stage 3 abnormalities. I was told that the body had cleared the HPV virus but the damage had already been done by the time the abnormalities were discovered. Whilst I agree that an HPV test is a strong indicator of abnormalities, it's best used in conjunction with the cervical screening rather than instead of. Sorry to read about what you"ve been through, but you need to have the HPV virus for some time before there's a very small chance that it might develop into cancer. You can order a home HPV self-test kit online, and get the result in a few days. More and more women are finding this out and if negative you can't get this cancer. A lot of women are happy to leave smear tests if they don't have the HPV virus.
